Deep in the Western Lebombo Mountains of Northern Zululand, Zuka Private Game Reserve forms part of the 31,000-hectare Mun-ya-wana Big Five Conservancy in KwaZulu-Natal.
It shares a boundary with the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Across grassveld, savanna, thornveld and dense woodland, the conservancy supports extraordinary biodiversity. Sungulwane Game Lodge sits on this reserve as the only privately-owned boutique lodge in the Mun-ya-wana Conservancy.

Sungulwane Private Game Lodge: Eight Suites in the Bush
The name Sungulwane comes from the Zulu phrase meaning “the view of the eye.” True to its name, the lodge looks out over unspoiled wilderness. The design draws on traditional South African culture, bringing together organic textures and shapes in a contemporary style.
Each of the eight suites nestles into a thick Red Ivory forest. You sleep within the tree canopies, with stack-back doors opening onto private decks and uninterrupted valley views. Outdoor showers put you directly beneath the open sky.
Inside, suites include air conditioning, a mini bar, a tea and coffee station and international plug points. WiFi and mobile reception cover the property.
The lodge offers six standard two-bed suites and two four-bed family units. With a maximum of 16 guests at any one time, the experience stays personal. One group can book the entire lodge, turning Sungulwane into a private base for families or friends travelling together.
South African Safari Big 5: What Lives at Zuka

- Giraffe
- Nyala
- Warthogs
Hippo and a wide variety of bird species round out the wildlife experience.
Photographers, take note: Twin spot hide places you eye-level with a water point. It creates close-range opportunities without you having to leave your seat.

Game Drives, Bush Walks and What Your Package Covers
Morning and afternoon game drives run twice daily. Each vehicle carries a maximum of eight guests. Experienced guides cover flora, fauna and animal behaviour in depth.
Game Drives
Book a private vehicle and your itinerary becomes fully tailored. Photography-focused, birding or family-paced, the choice is yours.
Bush Walks
Bush walks add another layer to the experience. On foot in a Big Five reserve, you read tracks at ground level and notice details a vehicle ride misses. Many guests say this slower pace stays with them long after their visit.
Evenings at Sungulwane centre on the boma, where dinner under the Milky Way and the warmth of an open firepit create a rhythm worth settling into.
Your package covers all meals and selected drinks. Activities such as rhino notching, photographic safaris and guided walks are available at an additional cost.
