The Springbok Lodge
African Inspired Safaris – Inspired to take you there
ABOUT
The Springbok Lodge
Why This
Inspires Us
- Family hotspot! Children are welcomed with open arms and allowed on game drives from a young age! Between drives there are jungle gyms and even fishing (seasonal though) that the family can enjoy. What blows our minds is that they even go as far as having baby amenities!
- Springbok Lodge offers a budget-friendly (we agree – value for money) stay with exceptional service, cozy accommodations, delicious food, and a wildlife experience comparable to the pricier lodges within the reserve.
- We enjoyed the “camp walk!” In your spare time the lodge has created a walk around the camp (with bench stops and all!) so you can learn about the smaller things in your own time. Great way to enjoy the down time for those who don’t know how to relax!
- Nambiti provides excellent wildlife sightings, and in addition, the reserve’s breathtaking landscapes surpass those of some other reserves, while the Sundays River entices bird enthusiasts with its abundance of rare bird species, raptors, and vultures, making it a true paradise for birders.
- What is great about Springbok Lodge is that it is conveniently located and so easily accessible along the N3 route connecting Johannesburg and Durban!

Lodge
Information
Springbok Lodge is situated in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve, a conservancy offering 22 000 acres of pristine, Malaria-free bushveld. The Reserve is home to the Big Five, as well as Cheetah, Hippo and over 30 species of plains game. Nature lovers will enjoy the area’s biodiversity, with Thornveld and majestic Acacia trees complementing extensive grasslands which mirror the plains of Central Africa.
The abundant natural water system, with perennial rivers and the beautiful waterfall and cascades on the Sundays River, makes for a unique sanctuary, attracting several rare bird species and an enviable array of raptors and vultures.
Feast your senses on the magnificent sights, sounds and smells of this untouched African bush. With every dawn, renew your bond with nature as you embark on a safari with your experienced and knowledgeable field guide.
The Springbok Lodge epitomises the perfect safari experience with beautifully appointed tented suites, service excellence, superb cuisine and prolific wildlife – ensuring an unforgettable experience.
Nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields, the Nambiti Reserve and Springbok Lodge offer guests a chance to unwind in a picture-perfect setting. Well positioned off the N3, the main route between Johannesburg and Durban, Springbok Lodge is just a four-and-a-half hour drive from the busy metropolis of Johannesburg and a mere three-and-a-half hours from the aromatic coastal city of Durban.
Making the lodge even more accessible is the 1.2km landing strip for light aircraft.
Helicopters can comfortably land directly at the lodge.
The breath-taking mountains of the central Drakensberg lie an easy one-and-a-half hours’ drive away.
Whether Springbok Lodge is your intended destination or the base from which to explore the surrounding Battlefields and Drakensberg you will be assured an exceptional stay and safari experience.
Suites
While the Big Five experience alone is enough to attract visitors, guests staying at Springbok Lodge leave with a different idea of “camping”… they call it Glamping!
Of their 21 luxury ensuite tents, 13 standard two sleepers and 8 family units (4 sleepers). In total they can sleep 58 guests offering 5-star equivalent opulence out in the African bush.
*In recent years whilst adding more tents and renovating some of the older ones they have gone with the option of replacing the canvas walls of the tents with brick and mortar. Of these newer tents there are 5 x luxury standard tents and 2 x luxury family unit tents. Their unique feature is that the toilet is private (in its own cubicle with a door).
All tents are air conditioned – keeping you cool in the hot summer months and warm in the chilly winter months with the addition of electric blankets to keep guests extra snug.
Each of their luxury tents have their own viewing deck with chairs, a king-size bed (also available as twin beds), a hospitality tray, complimentary sherry, safety deposit box, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries (the basics). Their family units have a king bed plus two extra single beds (also available as 4 singles) in one open plan bedroom.
All tents have an open plan bathroom with a double basin, indoor bath tub with hand shower and a private open air outdoor shower.
Between game drives enjoy unsurpassed views from your tent deck or from the pool whilst relaxing with your favourite novel, or keeping up to date with family and friends by sharing your experience.
At the end of a thrilling day of game viewing and birding, indulge in a hot bath or enjoy the rush of an outdoor shower under the star-studded African sky.
Dining
Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast are provided by the lodge daily – these three meals per day are included in the overnight rate.
The menus vary each day. Ingredients of the highest standard are sourced from local producers in order to support local businesses – big or small – as much as possible.
Their kitchen offers specially prepared child friendly meals for little guests or a ½ meal adult portion for young guests.
Bacon and eggs take on a taste of their own when savoured in the African veld.
The bush breakfasts are exciting for you, their guests as well as their staff who literally pack up everything and set up ‘kitchen’ in a scenic spot. Often their plans are ‘put to bed’ though, when the Ellies invite themselves to breakfast!
On fine summer nights and balmy winter nights guests are treated to an outdoor dinner around a crackling fire in their boma, an experience which is sure to be one of many highlights of your stay.
Boma dinners are served buffet style with either a Potjiekos selection or a traditional South African braai.
