ABOUT

Laluka Safari Lodge

Why This

Inspires Us

  • Laluka is probably the best kept secret within the stunning Welgevonden Reserve! Laluka means “grow to wisdom, to become intelligent!” in Zulu and personally we agree that the lodge has taken this to heart! They give their guests an opportunity to experience more – learn more and ultimately connect with the bush on a different level!
  • Laluka is a small family-owned and operated luxury lodge – this to us definitely shows in the day to day passion they have to all work together and provide a mind-blowing experience! (oh and yes! – that personal touch made us feel right at home!)
  • The lodge strives to have a low impact on the environment – and part of this is their very own organic farm! (yes – the best part is that Laluka grows their own produce!) The vegetables & herbs came right from the farm to the plate making their meals super fresh and tasty!
  • A photographer’s dream! The eye-level hide – it is only a few centimeters from the water’s edge! Perfect way to watch the busy waterhole, especially the elephants who regularly visit!
  • We were blown away by the level of comfort, eye for detail, style and overall ambiance from the suites to the spa and the last details of even the open fireplaces in the main lounge!
  • The rooms themselves are just gorgeous – from the outside showers and the stand-alone baths which makes for an unforgettable experience!
  • We love the private plunge pools (which can be heated if desired!) that overlooks the valley – what can be better sitting with a drink in hand relaxing with top notch views!

Lodge

Information

In Dutch, “Welgevonden” means “well-found” or “serendipitous discovery” and from the moment you drive through the gates it will become obvious why. Nearly 40 000 hectares of untouched African wilderness, this truly majestic stretch of land offers an intimate, personal experience of the bush.

Situated in the Waterberg District of South Africa’s Limpopo province, just 2.5hrs from Johannesburg (or a quick 45 min flight), Welgevonden is easily one of Southern Africa’s most accessible game reserves and boasts the additional convenience of being in a Malaria-free area.

Welgevonden’s diverse landscape presents a varying experience; travel through the vast savannahs and grasslands, explore the leafy wooded mountains and deep rocky ravines and uncover the many reasons the Waterberg was declared a Unesco heritage site.

Home to over 50 species of mammal, once you’ve had your fill of big 5 spotting, you can shift your focus to Welgevonden’s host of rare and sought-after species like Cheetah, Brown hyena, Caracal, Aardwolf and Aardvark.

And for those moments when the wildlife is laying low, gaze up at the sky and enjoy over 300 species of birds such as Blue Crane, Malachite kingfisher, Martial eagle, Denham’s bustard and Cape vulture.
When they conceptualised Laluka, they set out to design a lodge and an experience that truly is unlike any other. Everything about Laluka is guided by that unmistakable feeling and it’s their aim to have every guest leave rested, connected and invigorated by the magnificent African bushveld.
After a long day of bush walks, game drives and hours in the hide – you’re going to need to unwind. Enjoy a massage at the spa or spend the afternoon lounging on the pool deck, taking in the views – and a couple of cocktails never hurt!

When you stay at Laluka, you become a part of the family.

Suites

There are a total of 6 beautifully designed rooms, which compliment the complex, raw beauty of the bushveld are their understated but undeniably luxurious suites. Complete with private patios, plunge pools, air-conditioning, outdoor showers and unique bushveld vistas; Laluka’s rooms make for an ideal space to relax and reinvigorate.

Dining

Their ambition is to curate an experience of the bush like no other really comes to life in their food. Their chef has crafted a seasonal menu that is nothing short of a celebration of the fresh flavours of Africa.

Safari

Your guide can make or break the safari experience for you, that’s why they have taken care in sourcing extremely knowledgeable, experienced local guides. They offer excellent driven safaris, but always encourage guests to experience the intimate encounter that a walking safari offers.
