Lodge
Information
Baobab Ridge lies within the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve and offers guests an up-market, comfortable, authentic and affordable wilderness experience. This small and intimate private lodge with only seven private suites sleeps a maximum of 16 guests, giving a feeling of serenity, far away from the masses.
The lodge can also be booked exclusively, giving our guests the ultimate private luxury safari. As a part of the Greater Kruger National Park, the Klaserie has no fences between it and the Kruger and can offer guests the full Kruger Park experience in open game viewers. The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve and its neighbour – the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve – are known for their excellent game viewing.
Family owned and run, the lodge is a home away from home and prides itself on its relaxed, family atmosphere, wide smiles and friendly, welcoming staff. Situated within easy reach of the suites, the main lodge features a bar and lounge area, small TV room with satellite television and DVD player, free WiFi, outdoor terraces, guest bathrooms, a large dining room and an office.
Outdoors there is a comfortable open-air boma area with a fireplace. The swimming pool overlooks the surrounding bush and a small waterhole. The lodge is accessible to wheelchairs and is fully fenced from larger wildlife to ensure your safety.
Guests have full use of the indoor and outdoor living areas and all facilities.
There is plenty of space to unwind at Baobab Ridge, from their lovely pool deck to their welcoming lounge and bar.
Suites
The lodge has seven free-standing guest cottages and can sleep a maximum of 16 guests. All of the suites are raised on timber decks and their décor is inspired by the wonderful African wilderness that surrounds Baobab Ridge and reflects an air of simple, classic elegance with luxurious fittings and fixtures, high quality linen and clean, modern design.
Colours are neutral and muted, save for punches of colour and texture, from the warm hues of sunrise to the deep velvet blues of the African night… So lay back and unwind, and let your senses be filled with the wonder that is wild Africa.
Superior suites
At Baobab Ridge, there are six superior suites. All come equipped with a variety of luxury amenities, such as a fridge (ask us to supply it with drinks of your choosing), a tea/coffee station, a lovely outside lounging area on the verandah overlooking the African wilderness, and a lavish en-suite bathroom.
The suites are open-plan, with a separate living area furnished with two enormous recliners and a gorgeous bedroom area with a king-size bed that can be made into two twin beds if you so desire.
The wonderful, spacious bathrooms feature a fabulous soaking tub big enough for two, two vanity units with hand basins, bidet and toilet and an indoor shower, which opens to the outdoors.
Family suites
This suite is furthest away from the main building and offers the same design as the Superior Suites, except that it houses two smaller en-suite bedrooms.
It is designed for families of two adults and two children (aged between six and 12) and offers complete peace and tranquillity, with its wonderful wrap-around verandah affording views out over the surrounding bush.
One of the family suite’s two bedrooms features a double bed and the other has two single beds which are perfect for children. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom featuring an indoor shower, hand basin and toilet.
Outside on the veranda there is a small table and seating for four people. Inside, in the lounge area are two comfy loungers, as well as a fridge (ask us to stock it with drinks of your choice) and tea/coffee station.
Dining
At Baobab Ridge they pride themselves on creating wonderful, home-cooked meals that are made with fabulous, fresh and locally sourced ingredients.
Their talented chefs love to incorporate firm South African favourites and a range of traditional flavours into their menu.
Guests start the day with muffins and rusks with coffee before departing on your morning game drive, returning in time for a hearty brunch out on the deck (weather permitting) or inside in our beautiful dining room.
You’ll be stopping to indulge in a sundowner or two and some wonderful, savoury snacks.
After the evening game drive you will return to the lodge to enjoy a hearty, three-course set menu dinner next to a roaring log fire outside in our boma beneath a canopy of twinkling stars, accompanied by the sounds of the African night.
Safari
At Baobab Ridge, game drives are done in open vehicles with experienced senior guides. Your chances of locating the wildlife you want to see are substantially increased by their guides’ passion for nature and their interaction with other game vehicles.
They are also able to follow animals into the bush with the vehicles, giving you the chance to observe their behaviour and interactions that you might not otherwise see.
Since the lodge is in a Big Five region, you may frequently encounter lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, buffalo, and many other animals – some even being wild dogs and Cheetah!
Your guide will impart knowledge and details about each species’ characteristics and behaviour. Particularly in the spring and summer, when migrating birds breed, the birding is particularly stunning.
Night drives offer incredibly good opportunities to spot game not normally seen during the day. The afternoon game drives end in the dark, giving you the opportunity to experience a night drive as well! Don’t miss the chance to spot lions and other nocturnal species who are at their most energetic at night.
Walking in the bush gives you the chance to experience Africa from the ground, in the safe hands of our professional guide. The small details that are overlooked on game drives become more apparent from the slower pace of being on foot.
Bird calls, tracks, insects, plants, geology, the thrilling sight of spotting big game at eye level; everything takes on more significance and you gain a much deeper understanding of your environment.
