Amakhosi Safari Lodge
African Inspired Safaris – Inspired to take you there
ABOUT
Amakhosi Safari Lodge
Why This
Inspires Us
- Amakhosi Lodge (translated as a ‘place of kings’) is one of those destinations that you need to visit at least once in a lifetime! You are treated like royalty (and spoiled at every corner) and you are made to feel like part of the family!
- Want to combine a safari with something different!? Fantastic as Amakhosi is situated close to the Swaziland, Mozambique border, Sodwana Bay and St Lucia Wetlands – in fact the lodge is closer to Johannesburg than Great Kruger for those coming from that direction!
- The lodge itself is marvelously positioned (in its own reserve) overlooking the Mkuze River with stunning views of mountains and river frontage.
- We love the fact that each River Suite is actually built in the shape of a Zulu shield and the decor is of a typical Zula style! The suites are homely yet luxurious and comfy and let us not forget the fantastic river view that you see through ceiling-high windows!
- The Honeymoon suites have splash pools which you can enjoy whilst having a glass of wine and watching impala and warthogs! Or why not take a nap in the hammocks (the magic of this is that you may get woken up by buck enjoying a leaf or two close by!)
- The elegant spa is amazing to indulge each of your senses, soaking up panoramic views, relaxing with the sounds of the surrounding bush and enjoying a treatment! (what can be better!)
- This small yet absolutely charming Lodge is not only about experiencing a ‘Big 5’ safari – but something completely different! Frogging!! Summer months you head out in the evenings – kitted up with your gumboots – in search of a variety of these colorful species! (Game walk of a different kind & level – Imagine ticking that off your list!)

Watch the flash of the Malachite Kingfisher or Lilac Breasted Roller while lounging in your suite or a pool at the lodge surrounded by rocks, but when night falls, keep an ear out for the roar of the
Suites
Honeymoon Suites
Umntwana, means “a child of Royalty ” in Zulu. Guests get to slip into a piece of heaven in this “private kingdom” with high ceilings and glass walls.
An open-plan design with spacious deck, a private plunge pool and hammock overlooks the river.
The honeymoon suite also boasts an air-conditioner, a lounge, fully stocked mini-bar and tea/coffee making facilities and en-suite bathrooms.
<strong>River suites
Built in the shape of a Zulu shield and decorated in a typical Zulu style with a colourful modern touch, all suites are easily accessible from the main lodge.
The six luxurious river suites capture nature through ceiling-high windows and private viewing decks across the river.
Each suite accommodates two adults with an air conditioned lounge, bedroom, bathroom with a separate shower and toilet, safe, bath robes, fully stocked mini-bar and a tea and coffee tray.
Dining
Where the flavours combine European flair with an African fusion style. A hot and cold smorgasbord of only the freshest foods is served at brunch as a buffet.
On the veranda, high tea is typically served, with plate after plate of treats, including mini cheesecakes, chicken kebabs, micro pancakes with salmon and caviar, and veggie wraps.
The evening meal is an excellent multi-course meal served by candlelight with free-flowing South African wines. If the weather permits, dinner may also be had outside in the open-air boma beneath the stars.
Safari
This is Big 5 country, so on morning and afternoon game drives, experienced guides will undoubtedly show you what you can’t see from your deck.
Every night, stories of up-close experiences with playful cubs, sand-bathing elephants, and streaking cheetahs are shared around the campfire.
The daring guide’s encounters with smaller critters, such as delicate bark spiders and glossy dung beetles, as well as his comments about the reserve’s trees and medicinal plants, are just as fascinating.
